where are your choices now

the doors close silently for

your age is not a defining

hope, what was it like when

possibilities that set off

your curiosity, for anyone

can be lazy and just pick

out anything to call it their life

seeking a dull future without

becoming your original dream  

in youth a surgeon, a fireman,

a policeman, now all those

possibilities evaporated as

you got older without a clear

means of focusing on your

future, now a means to an end

as one fights the inner fear

twisting your present to retreat

further inside their lies for

once you denied your potential

you were doomed to be another

that curses his life as you blame

others for your expected demise
